Timing Chain question

i have a 91dohc im in the middle of changing the chain but i cant get the timing cover offf its wont come out from the bottom part of the timing cover. i didnt drop the oil pan yet i was trying to avoid it ... should i drop the pan any advice would be welcome:help :help

well, im pretty sure you have to remove the crank pully and front plate as well (and you have to take off the oil pan to take off the front plate). Hopefully someone else replies that can verify this for us.

Ask TrueSlide ... he just rebuilt his sohc he may know if the two engines are very close to the same. He also did his timing chain with a kit.

dohc is alittle different to a sohc im just having trouble takin the bottom part of the timing cover off

I'm almost certain you have to drop the oil pan on the dohc, i did the timing chain kit on my sohc and never had to.

but, i think you can get away with just lowering the front part of it, and be careful when doing so.

i knew i should have droped that pan instead of wasting so much time i could have been done by now
