Let's say the timing chain slips off and the engine locks.. is it possible to salvage the engine without too much trouble? I'm pretty sure that's what happened to my KA. I was driving it home when it died. I got it to start back up with a little gas pedal action and drove it about another mile when it shut off again and hasn't started since. I'm almost positive that the chain slipped off so again the question is whether I can do anything to save this engine.

Thanks

Break out the wrenchs ,buy a service manual...and tear into that baby! Seriously..that's the only way to really know what damage has been done. You could have bent valves(or broken).cracked pistons..couple of other things. If the block is still in good shape and the heads are ok, it could be rebuilt. Any rebuild is a lot of trouble. You might just get by with replacing the gears and chain....
