Alright well we just replaced the timing chain on my friends 93 240SX. The problem is that now, the engine fires, gets spark, but still won't catch. We checked the distributor, it was dropped 180 degrees off (yeah..), as I said there is a strong spark, but it just doesn't catch. Any help would be greatly appreciated as we are trying to get this thing back up by tomorrow.

Alrighty so we got the car started, so now we need to find out why the oil pump isn't pumping oil to the cams. Any ideas?

did you put the dist to pump shaft back in? and if so did you time it by its marks?

Well we've narrowed it down to being an oil pump problem. We have the engine started, and it runs, but no oil gets to any upper part of the engine. The distributor is in correctly and timed.

Our problem had nothing to do with the distributer...the oil pump just needed to be primed. We got it running but now we just have to work out the little kinks...Thanks for the help

The Distributor-to-Pump shaft, believe it or not, is underneath the distributor and connects to the oil pump! It has a gear next to the oil pump and has a crescent moon connection to the distributor.

The purpose of the distro. to pump shaft is to turn the distributor, right? Its been a week and the car is still having serious problems with timing...Any help?

Yes, to turn the distributor as well as the oil pump.

Ok well thats connected...but he still can't get his timing right. Is there a way to do that (the whole timing gun thing isn't working for some reason...)

Correct me ,but a 93 is a ka24de and the oil pump should drive offthe crankshaft. If you have had the covers off there should be a round spacer with flat sides that slides on the end of the crankshaft to drive the oil pump in the timing cover. If this is left out or the o-rings that seal the timing cover to the case are missing or leaking you will loose oil pressure. Also if trash from cleaning the gasket surfaces or metal from worn guides or such should get into the oil pan it can clog the oil pickup and block off oil flow. A improper seal at the oil pick will suck air and not oil.

Alright drjohn I get what you're saying and YES the oil pump is driven by the crankshaft, its in the lower timing cover. Theres oil flowing through the engine now, and at good pressure it seems. What we can't figure out is why his timing is so out of whack. Could it be that one of the cams slipped out of place when we took off the upper timing chain? (We replaced everything related to the chain...gears included)
