I don't know weather a Q45 has a chain or a belt but anyways the point of the thread looking through the paper and I see a 93 Q45 for $1500 and it needs a timing belt. I'm thinking about buying this car if I can get the money together for it that is if it is not that hard/expensive to get it running. I want to change the timing belt myself but I was wandering how hard it is or is it one of those deals you say **** it and have someone replace it for ya.

Thanks for the help in advanced guys

Robbie

The Q uses a Timing Chain and the problem is probably with the Chain Guides, not the chain itself.

Issues regarding the guide failures are well documented on the site, I'd highly suggest you take time to review them before even thinking about buying that car. It probably needs a new motor, in place of a chain.

Good luck.

Not Chain -- Chains, one for each bank and one for the oil pump. If the car has problems now , won't run or has a knock forget it. That's the reason it's $1500.Japenese pull engines are available for around $1600 not counting the xtra parts and time to get them ready for an install........Keep looking like to see u as a Q owner. Much help available here ..............:thumbup

Red - See if you can get it for less (AFTER you read every post about chain guides). If you can pick it up for $1000, it'd be worth it (if the rest of the car is nice).

Red,

1) go to the NICO homepage2) go to "search articles"3) plug in "guides"4) go to "search in"5) plug in "infinti articles"6) Now execute the search.

Several results will come up.Be sure to read the one thats titled "90-93 Q guides" ( or almost exactly that verbiage). This is a copy of our most comprehensive thread on this subject, from our old NICO board.Everything you need to know is in there.Including some $$ estimates., but as a note lately some members have succeded in doing some of those things for less$$ than mentioned in that thread, particularily the engine replacment.

BTW:

If they advertise "timing problems" one of two situations exists:

a) its a more minor problem and they dont know what it is.b) the engine is toast and they know or at least suspect it.
