Timing chain on a 89 240

i bought a 89 240 today and the guy i bought it from said the rocker arm is bad so i"m replacing the head but how do i get get the timing chain off i have the vaule cover off and the exhuast manifold off

There is a huge thread at the top of this section called "I ran into a road block please help" or something very similar. Plus there is a guide in the faq I believe.

You'll be takin a LOT more off then the valve cover. ;)

good thing you have a sohc and not the dohc. its pretty simple but time consuming.

i just did this job not too long ago and all your answers should be in that post.

Well I used a 15/16 (I think) wrench and a flat head screw driver in one of the holes so it wouldn't turn. It's really hard you'll probably want to use a breaker bar on the end of that. but before you do that you have to remove the power stearing pump, belt guide, and brackets, collector, intake manifold and exhaust manifold and all necessary wires and hoses, before you do that. I'm changing the head gasket on mine right now I getting oil on my keyboard.
