there is a 1 in a million chance that the head was in the compression stroke when the timing chain snapped & u didnt mess up any of the valves slapping into the piston. ka's are interference engines so there's prob a good chance that you will need new valves, valve guides, pistons, & mayb more. but look on the bright side, talk the guy down on the price about 800 if he'll go that low, and get a used ka from a guy doin a SR swap for around 300-400. if the chassis is clean & ur willin 2 swap id say go for it, then you can disassemble the old motor & see how bad the damage is & if its replaceable, u can build up a better motor or have a spare on the side

go ahead an do a motor swap you'll learn alot in the process then you can tear that motor down and see what makes it tick and good luck finding a good KA for 250 any more everyone wants on now since there the new fad like the SR next it'll be the CA then RB then F22s then 2JZs then probably B16 lol

lets take a step back and think of this in a different light...what made the chain snap?..did and is the crank locked up? was there a lack of lubrication to the engine?..did the oil pump fail?....did the transmission sieze up or grenade internally? ....timing chains dont just snap....it takes an imence amount of force to do that...id do a full teardown to investigate and id inspect every bearing , con rod, piston, valve and guide just to make shure..as a matter of fact..id even check out the transmission till i found the culprit..and then id determine if keeping the engine and transmission is a good idea from there...investigate..thats my advice..good luck

i guess that i was that 1 in a million... the timing chain tenshioner ( i know thats not right.. lol ) snapped (215,000+ miles...) and destroyed the front half of the motor... lol... but the valves and the pistons were all ok... well thats what happened to the guy that had it... he rebuilt the motor for a lil over 2k and then put less that 500 miles on it and blew the head gasket....... then i bought it for 400 bucks... including a new copper head gasket... lol... but thats what happened to my car...
