Realistically how many hours will be dedicated to replacing the timing chain guides on a KA24E? I don't plan on pulling the head, just the pan and whatever else is in the way, except the head. How long do you think that could take me? I'm not a noobie to turning wrenches. I hear lots of timing chain noise coming from under the hood. Thanks in advance for any help.

Cool but the problem lies in the fact that the write-up is for a KA24DE, not a KA24E which is not as user friendly. The write up rocks though!

If you know your way around a tool box 3-5 hours. closer to 3 if you do not need to drop the pan. 5 hours if you do.

This link is for SOHC KA24E. We followed it blindly and everything worked fine.

Just don't go cheap and get the full kit: (gears, tensonier, guides, gaskets)Cost us about $130 at Auto Zone.

Also good time to r/r water puump and / or thermostat if you are so inclined.

Curious as to why not Autozone. I have used them for as my primary parts supplier for about 4 different cars and have not had any major problems.

Of course I don't use the cheap "Valucraft" stuff they sell. I have only had the 240 for about 6 months but no problems with their parts so far.

Where would you suggest for these parts? And others?

Not to thread jack, but on a DE, BOTH of the UPPER guides are supposed to be discarded???
