I have been reading up on this issue, and great write up by the way ILikeMy240sx!!!!

Before I dive into this, I am wondering if I am diagnosing my noise correctly. Until I saw the threads on these guides, I was assuming I had a bearing going bad in my water pump, is the noise from the guides similar to water pump bearing noise?

Try isolating the noise (maybe w/ a long screwdriver or just using ur ears carefully)...

Sound coming from top of valve cover = timing chain guide rattle usually

Sound coming from lower would be closer to your water pump, etc...

And you should take out the guides anyway, they are no good for anything, so at least that will eliminate that piece.

So is it really true that you can leave the timing chain guides out and they wont hurt anything?

before you tear into the motor diagnose the noise first .easiest way is to remove the belts adn run the car if noise is gone then look into your drive accessories ie. p/s pump, a/c compressor, alt. ,w/p ...DIAGNOSE FIRST FIX ONCE....
