1989 nissan 240sx ..engine: KA24E

Does anybody know of a better & stronger timing chain guide & tensioner. Mine broke again after I replaced it 5 years ago. I haven't opened the valve cover yet to check; but the old symptom is heard once again. Almost every time I start the engine; I hear that RATTLING noise!

If you keep breaking guides, you may have too much slack in your chain. The tensioner isn't always the problem. Your gears could be worn or your chain could be stretched. I have a dohc and I replaced everything but the gears b/c I'm a cheap *** and 15,000 miles later, I've got the rattle again.

That's good to know I'll be sure to replace those as well.

hey the first time I replaced the chain; I noticed the front cover was pretty chewed up; does the front cover have anything to do with the integrity of the chain??? Also every oil change I've been adding about a half a cup of mystery oil to lightly clean the accumulation of gunk in the engine; would gunk be jamming the Timing Chain Tensioner; well I'll be checking on that.
