I'll be getting the timing chain quide removed this weekend to fix the timing chain rattle problem. Before I do that, I just want to confirm exactly which guide I will be removing. (And if it's fine to NOT have it there) I already read the write up, but I just want to confirm that I understand it right.

In the picture (not my engine), I marked guide #1 and #2. From what I understand, it is fine to remove both 1 AND 2, correct? If not, please correct me.

Also, while I'm removing these guides, what else should I also replace or check up on just incase? My S14 currently has 113k miles.

Thanks!

I'm fairly certain you're supposed to leave 2 alone.

Can anyone give a 100% confident answer? I appreciate your quick response though, InsanityInc.

take out both, that'll get rid of your chain guide noise.(i have done it, so did a friend with an S14, been runnin over a month of high rpm driving, still runs fine)

a friend of mine just removed the top 1, the noise is still there, am sure with removing the side will take care of the noise.

thats my 100% confident answer.

if the tensioner is in good condition(not gunked up, or or frozen) it should be able to take care of the chain slack.

who installed the top chain???

the marks dont even lign up with the idler pulley...

didi anyone else notice that?

just slap the chain back on randomly?? its also seems like whoever didi the job light up the cam keys with the marks on the chain!

i thought u were supose to lign it up with the indents.

i guesse it dont matter al long as the cams or engine dont rotate... i dunno.. correct me if im wrong.
