I was recently given a 1991 q45 that cosmetic wise is in good condition. After doing research I have noticed many people recommend replacing the plastic guides for the timing chain, but I can't seem to find the parts. Does anyone have advice on where to get parts for a timing chain replacement, and in general where to find these rare parts for this car?

:welcome: to NICO! Your best bet is probably Amayama for factory parts shipped from Japan. Most of the parts appear to be discontinued in the US, but mostly available from Japan. Other folks may be able to weigh in on aftermarket parts. I can't imagine they were ever popular enough to be produced in the aftermarket, so they may be repackaged OEM parts - but I don't know that for sure.

I ended up getting the timing chain kit from Performance VH which was all ITM brand parts but ended up having to grind some material off the head of one of the screws in order to keep it from contacting the oil pump chain. I also ended up having both timing chain tensioners fail, one right out of the box and one within a few hundred miles. I would go with OEM parts through Amayama if I were doing it again, the poor fitment and poor quality of the aftermarket crap is just not worth the extra time they take or the money you might initially save.

You can find these parts easily depending on what you want to do

I've only done one chain guide ordeal. Never again. Definitely a learning experience. You want a parts list? I Think amayama will have everything.

Okay. Round 3 of trying to post this because of ads. Back in 08/09 I did a whole engine replacement/overhaul. No I didn't pull any internals but I did the whole chain job. Injectors. Hoses sensors etc. Was a 92. Did the deatshwerks however you spell it Injectors. Adaptor kit for the phase 2 ones. Amyama will have everything but make sure you have a part list and everything you need before you enter.

The most effed up thing that happened to me after my entire chain guide ordeal btw. I turned the key. NOTHING. The starter relay needed to be replaced. The blue thing on the right side of the engine bay behind the abs unit. The amount of hours of sleep I lost...

There's definitely a parts list on this site.

I have found timing chain guides, but when I look up the parts in Amayama, some are out of production...

Against my better judgment I used the same kit, same place, was assured  he used it many times and never had problems.
500 miles on the passenger bank,1000 miles on the driver bank before they made noise, and cold start bog down. Tensioners with 200k had less wear, actually hold oil instead of leaking it.
You can’t get all components from Amayama, so it’s vk45 swap time when she blows.
