So my s13 has been running like crap lately, shaking really bad (1500 rpms) and shakes also pretty rough at idle, so I decided to investigate. Took the valve cover off and came to find the timing chain guide was broke and just laying on the chain!?!? So my question, is it nessesary to have? I think I remember hearing the KA having problems with the guide. I don't know if that caused the motor to shake uncontrolably, but it was definitely a problem. I'll keep you posted.

check the timing chain rattle fix sticky on 240sx general chat , it tells you to remove both timing chain guides(the top and right 1, not the tensioner), it was a nissan TSB.
