timing chain for ka24de

i heard there was recall on the timing chain tensioner. is it really necessary to replace the chain and gears when i rebuilt to turbo.

depends on what the milage was on the chain and tensioner, usually a good idea though.

The only valve train issue I know about the KA24DE, is that the upper chain guide need not be there any longer.

When I build a KA24DE, it's just a common practice to discard the upper chain guide, and replace both the upper and lower chains and their tensioners. Relatively cheap insurance in my opinion.
