Alright guys, here's a story that will help squelch this topic :|

I bought a 94 240 convertable. It was a beautiful red almost mint condition with 96,000 miles on it. The guy i bought it from did a complete head job and it wasnt smoking at all and sounded nice.Well 2 months down the road, blue smoke, so bad oil rings no problem i'll just keep adding oil if i have to. Maticulously 5 months later, driving down the freeway, an oil galley clogs and starves the crank bearing, spins and poot im out an engine. So i bought a used 92 engine. The intakes were slightly different then my 94 so we switched it over. Remember i only have like 7k miles on a 94 engine with a completely new valve, cams, springs, timing chain guides and tensioners. So we drop in the 92 engine and now im broke. The car is at the shop, the chain does stretch after usage, the mile was also unknown on a 92. We start it and it runs great, except the timing chain noise. It still had the top guide cause it was a 92, which we removed and it took away some of the noise but some slight slapping existed. I talked to 3 of my friends who are nissan techs, all the tensionors and guides and chains will change over from a 94 to the 92, thats my upcoming project, bla.

So pretty much, any noise coming from the distributor/timing chain region at idle only gets worse when revved. Its not a bearing and not the distributor gear 90% of the time. Take the time to replace all the chains and the tensioners. The tensioners are oil pressure operated. Looking at my 94 engine also the water jacket was about 40% worn through before the previous owner had the whole top end rebuilt. IF you guys want pics of the replacement and installation of a new kit i can take pics as i do it. Its not hard, everything has marks. Bla, sorry im just generally pissed after putting so much money into a car and having so many problems.

ps 2 months before the engine went, the rear calipers seized up, ruined the pads, the rotors and at 70 mph, ruined the tires. Maybe in a few weeks i'll have a car that will drive with the top down with no mechanical problems huh?

car...... 3300brake crap as described with new calipers, rotors, pads and tires.with labor..... 700?used 92 engine 700labor for install and intake swap 700timing chain swap... 120 (i already have the parts, 200+ when buying)

total = about 2220$ is it worth it with the impending rb swap? time will tell i guess? any opinions? mail me at [email protected]

The bolt that holds the idle gear together on my motor decided to rip the threads out and wiggle a huge hole in the head where it used to reside. After it accomplished this it bound the timing chain, proceeded to snap it off and rip of the head of my exhaust camshaft. This was only after a second week of owning the car. The weekend before that the #2 injector gave up its ghost. I hope that this makes you feel better.

My car is sitting by the house. It has given me nothing but trouble, but I look at that thing and it puts a smile on my face, because one day it will be running and running hard. There are not too many rear wheel drive cars that look that good, that are affordable, and have such awesome potential. KA24DE's are dime a dozen. Just find one and do what you did all over again. If anything it will make you very proficient 240SX mechanic

I have a 97 s14 and just bought a non running 92 s13. The engine in the s13 is gone. I am now disassembling the engine try to find out what is wrong with the engine, i guess the timing chaing snapped the guide and broke it, and the piston seized inside the engine, which i don't kno yet. Any way, i am swapping sr into my s14, and putting the s14 KA into the s13. Just swap the intake and exhaust manifold and distributor then engine should work just fine.
