thought the problem was rocker arm noise.Found out the problem is the timing chain damper doesnt have enough pressure on chain, chain is slapping around.Wondering if any way besides removing front cover to replace it.Dont think so but if anyone has had to replace it and found a quicker way to do so please let me know..Thanx

eh, i did write up a long reply to this but my net died on me.

you will have to remove the front cover to fix it, no matter what is the problem. Dont be dead set on what you need to replace untill you do have it apart, damage is illusive from the top view.

If you just have what you think is a weak tensioner, take it apart and extend/stretch the spring a little bit. I only say to do this because "new" tensioners almost always are no better than the one you take out.

be careful when you install the tensioner because it could move the cam slightly take notice of how many teeth it moves and place it that many forward so when you put the tensioner it will be correct oh and make sure the vechicle is in 5 th gear .

Installing the tensioner on ka24e along with the chain guide (basically same as ka24de lower chain as well) will not move the cam or crank if the chain is proper position and engine and head are at tdc. Transmission doesnt have to be in any special gear or even be there at all.
