I wonder why the timing chain covers on the 1995 Q45 never leak or need to be resealed? Less oil pressure than valve covers? Also, is it advisable to ever replace the timing chain tensioners as a preventative maintenance?

Is there any way to test the water pump for damage?

Waterpump either leaks or shaft wobbles when it needs replacing- that said I replaced the original one at 203,000 as preventative maintenance{still worked without issue} while having other work done in that area{thermostat,hoses,pullies,etc}

Yes, I'm in process of doing thermostat,hoses, and water pump etc,. I quess I should replace the bearing in the pullies while I'm at it. I took the radiator out so it is relatively easy to work on. It's about time tens harder to get out than on my 1990. My 1995 has about 80k miles but may have been first time the belly pan has come off. Belts appear to be original and severly cracked.

That's alot of miles for a water pump. Must be mostly highway miles?

It really depends on how fresh one keeps the coolant.
