Timing chain/cam gears question - urgent

I'm digging into my motor to check the tensioner and possible find a cause for low rpm hesitation.

This picture is not at TDC but shouldnt the dots match up with the slightly discolored chain links? If i keep rotating the motor will they eventually line Up? theres another colored link on the chain, do i use that one?



Not at TDC, where are the supposed to line up?

the links should line up.........after a lot of crankin, and that looks like tdc on exhaust stroke(due to the alignin pins pointing down, and the exhaust cam 1st cylinder lobes pointing down, they should be pointing to the exhaust side, intake goin up or in v with exhaust), rotate the crank once more to the last line from left to right(while lookin @ the crank from the front)

And now it just looks all fraked up to me... I wonder if a previous owner was in here messing around?

just keep turning they will line up eventuallyi.ve had to turn mine several times sometimes to get them to line upthe top chain and the bottom chain are not in proportion to each other
