timing chain broken piece??

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

i just pulled off my valve cover today and saw that something was broken off right below the the timing chain and inbetween the cam gears, there is to bolts holding down a broken off piece of metal in my ka24de 92 240

I think it's called a timeing belt guide

you can leave it off and take the guide on the right off and the chain rattling will stop

just wondering, since I never had to deal with this

does this happen to SR as well?

also, does the tensioner needs to be adjusted once the chain guide is gone?

nope the guide doesnt have anything to do with the tension of the chain. You cant adjust the tensioners anyways they meerly are pushed against the chain by a small spring and oil pressureThis sticky from 240 gen covers it prety well...click here
