I have no clue how many miles are on my redtop, so before I put it in I was thinking about changing the Timing Chain and Guides. I read that the 91 Sentra B13 chain will work. Is this true for the guides as well?

Also, is there any way to tell if your chain and/or guides need to be changed, or should I just do it. Thanks!

Yes, the B13 Sentra chain and guides will work. That's what was used on my S13 redtop. The knock-sensor is compatible too.

Look for cracks on the chain links, the guides are good unless they are broken or cracked. that clean *** motor you got don't need no timing chain! crazy talk! but if you do, you have to remove the upper oil pan bolts...two are attached to the front cover....why won't this damned front cover come off!<----me saying thisshaun

Hey Shaun! I do talk crazy at times. The engine is real clean and like Jason said, the cams look real good. I just thought I'd take a peak before I put it all in. I've started ordering the parts, so I should be able to start putting the engine in as soon as I get back from Hawaii. It helps that I just bought my wife a new car so my 240 is back to being my toy. Big tips at the strip club made that possible!

If anyone is looking for an engine or parts, check these guys out!www.jgycustoms.com They'll treat you right and their prices are great. They're a little crazy, but that just makes the whole experience that much better :D

Cool now I have something new on my list to do as well. I have a timing chain rattle when I start up my engine when it's cold and I'm not sure what the hell is causing it so I'm just going to replace my timing chain and guides this spring or summer.

Nah, leave it on there. Nissan timing chains and engines have a history of being very resilant. With one of my Datsun's, the chain guide broke in half and was sitting in the oilpan. The chain kept spinning, and I was revving that thing to 6000+ RPMs all the time. :rolleyes

Yet none the less, I got the chain replaced on the current engine that should be going into the car sometime soon. The SR20DET is too nice of an engine to run into the ground. The L-series on the other hand....

I'd like to not do anything about the rattle, but it's annoying. I just want to get rid of it b4 anything serious happens.
