Well, I finally got around to trying to get the head off the motor. Everything is ready to come off. The timing belt is still on though.

There is 2 pulleys I can see. One is visible once you take the upper timing belt cover off and there is another towards the bottom right side of the motor.

Now before I do something stupid and break something, how can I loosen up the slack on the belt. Which pulley would it be?

Also the timing on the motor. Theres 5 marks on the crank pulley and the cam gears have a dot on each. Where should everything be pointing too.

To get slack in the belt, you'll need to loosen the tensioner up. To do that you'll need a socket and an allen wrench. On the left side of the motor, in the front, below the cam gears, there is a small round pully. That is the tentioner. Loosen the bolt in the middle and then use an appropriate sized allen wrench and rotate the tentioner until the belt is loose enough to remove it. As for the timing, I just made sure and set the motor at TDC on the compression stroke for the #1 cylnder, and then lined up the dots. I Only remember one dot on each gear, so I'm lost there. Good luck!

nicely explained floater! now email me about that coolant elbow( [email protected] ). I'll mail it tomorrow, and you can send me some cash for it later. But I'm broke like no-one's business, so when you get around to it, paypal me something for it;)

w00t! I got it. That was so easy. I didnt even notice the hex in the tensioner. I had glanced over it before and though it was just a regular hole.

It all took 5 seconds!

Well the head is off and the damage report is a blow head gasket in the #3 cylinder. Everything else is fine. Piston tops are fine, just need to be cleaned up a little.

But other than that everything is good! Just need the new gasket and headbolts and this thing should be back and running in no time!
