Hello All,

I was told by a mechanic that a busted timing belt would destroy the engine on a z32. Any truth to this. I thought the engine was freewheeling on these cars.

Yes it's true because a part of the engine still moves when other parts stop to work.

The main problem when the timing belt brokes is the valves, because they stay open when the piston is still running!

Hope this helps !

Phil

Yes, but a mechanic will also tell you this to make $$$ off your a** by scaring you..

based on how many kms you have and how you drive the car will exactly know where your at

Obviously a busted belt will make your car immobile but i didnt think it would do any damage to your engine. Being a freewheeling engine I thought that valves would not collide with pistons if the belt broke.

there will be interference, its important to do the 60K maintenance and the 120k. Beats sitting on the side of the road looking into your non-existent wallet =P
