Rotating the motor is not important just to start the motor. What is important is ensuring the timing belt is properly aligned on the sprockets and the tension is proper. There are various methods to do this, but the FSM suggests rotating the motor 120 deg and back to check both. I mark the backplate where the cam gear marks align after the timing belt is on properly. Then, I rotate the crank shaft twice, back to TDC and then check the gear marks against the backplate marks. This will verify the timing belt is installed properly. I then check the gap on the tensioner to make sure it's approx 4mm. The spec is 3.5mm to 5mm.
I hope this helps...
