So I am doing a full timing belt service & the kit gives me a gasket for the water pump, but I have seen a bunch of people use the liquid gasket instead. Anyone know which one is better Or even if I should use both. Although that doesn't sound right.

Use the gasket. IIRC, the write-ups say use gasket maker because most didn't know a water pump gasket even existed. I used gasket maker and then later discovered my kit had a gasket :chuckle:

Factory engines were all built with a liquid gasket for the water pump and exhaust valve covers. Also a few other parts as well, such as the water lines for the heater core on the back side of the block. And honestly, not sure why. It most certainly was more labor intensive to manufacture the engine using liquid gasket material. So, when I did mine, I ignored the paper gasket and went with RTV. Just assumed that the Nissan engineers had a reason for it.

I think technically blue is spec, but I think people also say you can use the ultra-gray. I've used both with no issues.
