I have a 1999 Pathfinder w/ a 3.3 engine. Is it necessary to disconnect the AC refrigerant line when replacing the timing belt. I've read differing accounts on the matter. I plan on replacing the belt myself and don't want to find out that I should have had the coolant removed when I am halfway through the job.

No, it is not necessary to disconnect the AC line, it has enough movement in it that you should be able to push it out of the way enough to remove the upper timing belt cover.
