I was wondering if there was advantages to a particular timing belt, or does it come down to BRAND and COLOR preference?

Any insights on these would be greatly appriciated, a belt is a belt right?

I will use a sponsor as example:

RAW BROKERAGE

Nissan OEM $55.00Greddy $132.00HKS $165.00

Greddy and HKS also make adjustable cam gears to go with their belts and Tomei makes a set to (there are also eBay ones if you roll that way)

I went with greddy. If you check ebay often you can get a good deal on one. I got mine for 85+5 for shipping brand new in the box.

I was suckered into a GReddy. Go with the OEM unless your are building a purpose-built (non-street) motor. Save the extra $70 and use it for something else.

Well what do you expect? Its all about preference. There's nothing wrong with going for an after market belt that's stronger. Reason why most run OEM is because we aren't shooting for crazy HP. It's like rebuilding an engine to just put out 300 to the wheels. If you want to get a brand name and spend that much go ahead. To us there's no need if OEM works.

So, what power level necessitates an aftermarket timing belt?

ill bet every rb'er will havea diff answer, " i saw so n so run x hp w a stocker" if ur planing to go above 300-350 just go ahead and get a after market belt, sorry but spend the extra 40-70 bucks for the one of many weak points of a high reving motor, its a very basic thing to replace

Worry about RPM and your head mods rather than HP. 500rpm is enough for me to upgrade the belt. A timing belt is *the* most critical point of the engine.

Should the 70k standard replacement schedule be kept with these aftermarket belts or can they go longer then normal?

i mite sound like a worry cat but i replace my t belt every 10k seeign how hard i beat on my motor, a 50-100 buck part vs dropping a valve n having to replace the entire motor seems worth it to me, ill prob get"called out" by sum of the cheaper guys but sorry, preventative manintenance is on the top of my list, these motors/ mods dont come cheap, better to spend the 50-100 every 8-12 months rather then replacing your swap
