hey i just got a question about installing a timing belt. Ive tried the search button but couldnt find anything useful. When i line the crank pulley at tdc the intake and exhuast cam gears dont exactly line up were there supposed to be, the marks on the rear timing cover. Can anyone tell me a way to fix this while still keepin the crank pulley at tdc. I dont want to mess anything up. I know the ca fairly well but , not well enough to jsut go in and start doin stuff. so if anyone could help me it would be appreciated thanks.

You pretty much need two people to set the timing. The timing gears need to be held in place at their timing marks. If not, they will move slightly off. If you don't have a second set of hands, some safety wire will do.

Yeah, you need to take the belt off and line it up.

On another note, I hope you don't plan on using that timing belt.

1st-It can be done by yourself, as I've done it 3 times by myself. It sucks and it would be WAAAAYYYY easier to have another set of hands.

2nd- DON'T USE THAT FRIGGIN TIMING BELT!!! You're BEGGING to have it break on you. The CA is an interference motor. That means that if the belt breaks, and the motor is running, you WILL bend valves, and PROBABALLY screw up some pistons.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get a new timing belt!

lol, ok good

First you set the crank sprocket timing mark up. Then you set the timing gear marks. Find a way to hold the cam gears so they don't move as you slide the belt over the gears. It may take a couple times to get it right. Set the tension on the belt and turn it over 5 or 6 times (I don't remember) by hand and make sure they are all lined up still.
