Hello, I have a 1992 Nissan 240SX SE Convertible. I am not sure if it has a timing belt, or if it is a timing chain? It has a 4 cylinder, 2.4 liter engine, RWD. I purchased it from a previous owner two years ago and am unsure which one it usually comes with. If anyone can clarify this for me I would appreciate it. Thanks!

KA24DE has a timing chain, but there can be an issue with the upper guide and a "rattle". Worth looking into.

Ok thanks! I appreciate you clarifying this question for me. I of course have looked under the hood but did not see a belt, leaving me to believe it must be an internal chain. I used to drive a 1986 Nissan hard-body pickup truck with a 4 cylinder engine and it had a timing chain, which also led me to believe that my car would have a chain because of its similar engine.

the only real difference between those two motors is the throttle body. But yes timing chain.

the upper timing chain guide if still in your ride..needs to be removed...if ya pop the valve cover off you will see it if ya have one..they break and do dmg on the way down into your oil sump....allso...take a look at your chain guides if thats not the issue...you might have one failing....hope this helps..good luck.
