So i've been posting posts about my RPM's jumping when at High speeds and i realized. I have sort of a grinding noise coming from the compartment where the timing belt is. Now im worried because i dont want the belt to snap and cause serious damage but i think it might be the chain is lose? But my question is that could this be affecting my RPMS when driving at high speeds?

Also. When I replace the Timing belt and all, Should i replace the water pump with it also? I know the 300ZX has the same or almost identical engine as the J so would this kit work? http://www.fcpgroton.com/produ...+Kit+

I figured that being as they have the same engines almost the same water pump would work? help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys

YES!!!!!

Kit specifically for your car:

http://www.infinitipartsusa.co...=3221

It does NOT included the upper & lower idlers though (which I would replace while in there), but does included the camshaft & crankshaft oil seals & various other parts you will need.

If I am not mistaken rockauto.com has the idlers cheap.

yeah i told him the water pump the belt haha.. is it supposed to be more? im guessing it's for all the work because i dont think it's 5.4 hours to change the water pump and belt alone.

Most like NOT the source of the jumping RPMs problem though, but who knows what you'll find under the timing belt covers.

Nissan also sells a water pump gasket for the 300ZX engine that fits the J30 engine and isn't included in any kits that I'm aware of.

Just changed the timing belt in autoshop. Looking at the kit posted in this message, I dont think that the mechanic really changed all this things. When I picked up the car they just showed me a belt and said they had to change the coolant.

While picking they said the car had other problems. they check engine light is on. I said if they checked, they said no. I told them I did not see such a thing. They said, when I left it was on. Then when they started the car, I saw no check engine. The two mechanic spoke to each other in some European language. From their body language, and some words, I could understand that one of the mechanic put something in the wrong way, the other one later corrected it and thats how the check engine light went away.

I got a bit worried, because, now I could understand that the check engine light came due to their activity and just no to take the responsibililty they said it was there before. Because I am very consious about the car. I can do minor repairs but timing belt in an interference engine is over my level.

When I picked the car the cars idle behavior has changed. It seems to be shaking after every few seconds. I told them about this, they said they dont see any problem. They charged $500 for doing it. Now I am not sure if they did correctly or not. I asked them about pump, thermostat. They were like, are you kidding me.

I was wondering why the car idle response changed. And also I felt that in the auto gear when it changes from gear 2 to gear 3, I feel a different behavior.

Perhaps because your belt was bad it retarded your timing which made you think that it was the correct shifting ect. But now that it is fixed ( because you arent used to the correct shifting ect. ) it feels wierd and wrong to you?
