Working around the rain and thunderstorms I got about half of my timing belt job done today. I found this piece on the ground when I was cleaning up, it was back near the starter and I'm wondering where it came from and if it's going to be a problem when I don't put it back? Maybe someone will recognize it and solve the mystery, but I doubt it.

It's not broken or sheared off, it's smooth all around, almost a half circle.

ya I put that under the picture maybe you thought it was my sig. it's completely smooth. not broken at all.

Sorry had to use the phone camera the good camera is out of town with the wife, hence why I'm working on this now.

Approximately, 6mm (radius, if it were a circle) x 5mm (depth) x 15mm (diameter, if it were a circle).

It's weird, I don't know where it could've come from, but the chances are most likely that it showed up after I took the starter out.

Did you (assuming you got the timing belt kit form http://www.trademotion.com/par...=3221 ) install the 4 camshaft seals (13042-16V00), the crankshaft seal (13510-10Y10) and the 2 o-rings (13037-75T00)? Their picture http://www.trademotion.com/sfi...8.jpg doesn't even show the o-rings (unless I missed it but I stared at this picture for a half hour looking). It looks like the camshaft seals go on both sides of the intake camshaft sprockets...somehow. But taking that apart worries me since everything is all in alignment now. I also don't see the crankshaft seal on the picture...so I have no clue about that.

I can't clearly figure out where they go and the manual doesn't give me a good explanation on how to do it...so I'm not all that comfortable with trying to use them. I figure it isn't that big of a waste if I don't use them...but if it's not too hard I would want to put the new ones in. Maybe these are more for people who are taking more apart than what I am doing?

Edit: Scratch that. There's no way I'm doing the Oil Seal for the crankshaft. I found it on EM-22, I am not interested in taking the oil pump out and the oil pan. I'm ready to put this thing back together...not take more apart.

I think I'm going to pass on the camshaft oil seals too. I'd have to go get a tool to put them in. I'm guessing two are behind the exhaust sprockets and two are behind the intake sprockets like in the picture on EM-22, under "Camshaft Oil Seal", except they just show the intake sprockets.

I'm still not sure where the two o-rings are supposed to go. Their description lingo doesn't match up with stuff in the manual. It should be easier to do this.

It looks like a shear key that is used to lock pulleys or gears (or lawnmower blades) onto a shaft. Do any shafts have a groove in them?

Thats the first thing I thought.A shear key to keep a pully or gear from spinning on a shaft.

I'll have to look. The only one that I think I loosened enough was the compressor belt tensioner pulley. Sounds like a good place to look.

Seems like you guys know what you are talking about. It has to be one of these:

I just need to figure out where it came from.

Wow...seeing where it goes is as PLAIN AS DAY. It goes in the groove of the shaft the oil crankshaft spocket is on. It makes it so the pulley that runs the belts can only go on that one way.

I'm relieved it was so obvious. Funny mine should come out and bounce about a foot or so towards the back of the car when no one else seemed to have an issue with it going anywhere. I'm just glad I found it...because I easily could've put it back together without that in there...I can't say for certain that I would've noticed.

You can see it in the picture sitting up there.

this goes in the slot on crankshaft so that the crankshaft pulley will turn as the the engine turn.
