Looking for anyone that may be able to help with some direction and/or advice.

I went to start my wife's 300z yesterday and initially it tried to start but died right away. I attempted to start it again and it wouldn't hit at all. I then realized that it sounded completely different while cranking. My fear is bent valves if it is the timing belt.

Just wanted to see if there is anything else I should look at or consider before disassembly for timing belt replacement. The car has over 100,000 miles on it so the timing belt needs replaced regardless.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated and I am in the Cincinnati area if anyone has suggestions as to an individual or shop that is knowledgeable in regards to this engine.

Thanks,

Mark

Welcome to Nico. Not knowing what he sound actually sounded like, I can't jump on that train, but have you checked the ECU for codes?

Timing belts are 4 years OR 60k miles. If you don't know if its never been done, you should do it today, regardless if you find the problem. Otherwise, currently your description is too vague. Is the starter turning? Can you turn the crank by hand with a 27mm socket? Do you know you're getting fuel? What have you tried? What have you ruled out?

Thanks guys,

The engine still cranked, just didn't try to start at all. I've decided to bring it into the shop and take the front apart. Like on of you guys said, its time for a timing belt regardless of what this issue may be. I didn't want to crank it any further since this is an interference motor.

Thanks for the replies.

This exact thing just happened to me me a week ago and was thought initially to be a timing belt issue but it in fact was a bad coolant temperature sensor. The car is getting to much gas because the sensor thinks it's always cold and it gets choked out and flooded. in my case i needed all new spark plugs and an oil change once the sensor was replaced.
