i have the crank at TDC. but the cam gear "dots" will not line up with the alignment marks on the back of the timing plate. is there a special trick im missing here? everytime i try and line the cam gears to the backing plate marks, the valve spring pressure just bounces the cams back.

Thanks for the help.

First of all, I hope your valve covers are not on or it will be extremely difficult more most of you novice guys to do this. With your valve covers off, you'll need to rotate each camshaft until the mark on the cam gear is aligned with the mark on the timing belt backing plate. Once you've manually done this (one at a time), while holding the camshaft in the position it needs to be in, take a screwdriver and wedge behind the cam gear, hence jamming it in the position you desire. You will repeat the same thing for the remaining camshaft. The rest is pretty elementary. If you screw this simple procedure up, then god help you.

thats basically what i figured, but i just had to be sure. I figured doing it that way seemed to "ghetto". I refered to the FSM and it said nothing abt removing the valve covers or anything so i just had to be sure.

Thanks Dee.
