i was looking online and i saw those fancy clear/smoked timing belt covers, they look pretty neat, then i saw a belt cover that only goes over the top of the gears like a hood.. makes the engine look pretty gnarly with the gears all flipping around in front and visible, but would that have some serious consequences on the belt or teeth?

Don't get the clear or smoked ones they are worthless... Have you ever pulled your timing covers? If you have then do you remember all the grime by the tensioner? Exactly haha.

The "hoods" are also worthless.. I have heard of 1 loose wire making the engine jump 3 teeth... :ohno:

Look at tony's build thread. Notice how he smoothed the timing covers, that is the cleanest/safest way to go about making them look better IMHO. :bigthumb:

Agreed. My way is the cheapest and most versitile, as you can paint them any color you want.

Interior Innovationsis offering real carbon fiber covers, without PTU holes soon, but I'm sure they'll cost you.

With our motor being interference motors, I'd want all the protection I could get for the t-belt.

maybe i'll get the clear smoked cover just for car shows and use the normal one for everyday stuff.

never taken the cover off before, can't be that hard, few screws here and there right?

Yeah, a few bolts, no biggie.

Oh yeah, and the water pipes...

Clear smoked covers are for trailer queens, not cars that are driven.

Smooth your own, much more satisfying results.

They have no PTU mount, and they do fit. Still have the ribs, but those are easier to smooth.
