I'm thinking about cutting the timing belt cover and just leaving the piece for the CAS. I know other people do it, and I think it looks great. My question is, manufacturers put covers on for a reason. Has anyone ever had problems with debree or dirt getting onto the belt? Just want to be sure since a timing belts health is critical. Thanks

Jared.

I ran it cut for about a year, but went back because I was always worried about the exact same issue as you. For the time it was cut, I never had a problem. But Murphy's Law and all...

I ran without a cover on my RB, no issues. Sure, there is a possibility of something falling in there; if it worries you keep the cover on. I think you would be constantly thinking about it and that would be no fun.

my 92 talon TSI AWD 10 second beast still sits under a cover on stands in the corner of my back yard because of this issue...... a small piece of debris totally ruined my Slowboy Racing built engine....... ruined 90% of my valvetrain and at least 1 piston. Only reason i still have the car is because after trying for 6 months to sell it as a roller with blown motor, i gave up and built my green S13..... ill get around to it one of these days, but my plans for it are way larger than even the cost of my current S13 even ammount to.

i'd say do it if you have/get adjustable cam gears. but what i would do is try to find another cover, cut that, and use the cut one to tune it and then put the non-cut one on when driving around. its a win-win

BAHAHAH

Debree...i think he meant Debris

but anyways------

URBAN DICTIONARYDebree - found within the vagina. Usually black in color. Quite rare but you'll notice it if you run into it.We were having such good sex, then all of a sudden i noticed there was some puss debree on my d!ck!

Brie Pronunciation: BREE Notes: This French cheese is rich, mild, and creamy, and it's soft enough to spread easily on crackers or bread. As with Camembert cheese, the Brie name isn't protected so there are lots of mediocre knock-offs on the market. Look for French Bries--they're much better than their American counterparts. The rind is edible. For best flavor, wait until it's perfectly ripe and warmed to room temperature before serving it.

The cover is there to slow down the wear on the belt as dust and grime wears the belt relatively quickly and the manufacturer needed to get 100K before it needed servicing. The thing is without the cover i can change a belt now in 20 minutes so i'll just change mine every 20,000 just to be sure.

This is what i have made up for my car through my brothers machining business, i've been running it for 18 months and never had a problem;[img][/img]

definitely a risk involved. A couple CA18 owners posted their misfortunes here of the mess that a little foreign object can make.I'm gonna modify mine so the piece I cut off can be bolted back in place, seeing as I only like the exposed look for "show" (or cam tweaking). No point having it open for the other 99% of the time imo
