My rig has 178,000 miles on it. I have no idea if timing belt has been done. Is there an inspection hole/plate or something I can easily remove with out tearing it all apart?
The dealer told me you can only check it by tearing it all apart and by then I should just do it.

I don't want to do it if I don't have too. It's no cheap, that's for sure.

Thanks again for all the help!

You dont "have" to do any maintenance item

But its just that.... maintenance...

I think the belt is 100 or 120k service

If your tight on money though I wouldnt worry about it now, pretend in your head someone did it already lol

my old 97 pathy went 211k miles. I didn't replace the timing belt after I bought the car at 145k miles. So even assuming the guy before me did it at 100k or so that will still give well over 100k miles. And if he didn't, well, it made it to 211k on just the factory belt. Couldve gone more if i didn't wreck it ;(

97 QX4 rated at 168 K Km or 100,000+miles. Changed mine at 170,000 km belt was still supple square and tensioners good. Inference fit motor, broken belt = lots of money to repair. vs. time and $700 for DIY or $1000 for dealer.
