hey guys i got my Z torn back apart and i got a few people telling me my car isnt running right because they dont think its on time correctly and i think it is perfect so is there a way to make sure the timing is right on? so i can prove to those people its correct im in the process on taking the heads off cause the compression is low and was gonna change the head gaskets and i may have bent a valve as well. whats the best way to do a leak test on the valves? and should i run a scan tool on it and see if something is wrong with the valves and or timing? any body have suggestions about this before i pull the heads? help is appreciated!

You could count the cogs on the timing belt to make sure it's not off a tooth should be 24-45-24-59 starting from the left exhaust cam. Timing wise 15 degree btdc is what the cas should be at. As for doing a leak down test, you would need to rent/buy a leak down tester and check the various cylinders same as you did the compression test for the most part which would give you a pretty good idea along with the compression test where your issue is, but I would check to make sure the timing belt is on right first.

what exactly do you mean by 24-45-24-59 is that the number of cogs between each gear?

Those are the number of teeth on the belt. Really though, it's pretty hard to have it off. If one section is extra tense or extra loose, then it is probably off by a tooth.

+1 on counting the cogs. Go to the factory service manual and look at EM-18.
