I use to have a oem RB25det series 1 with AEM tuned for 17psi. The engine ran lean one night and popped! So I have decided to replace that engine with a Neo. I know I could just rebuild the oem engine for the same price but I would like to start over with something a little different.

My question is I know the Neo had a compression ratio of 9:5:1 compared to the series 1 which is 9:0:1. With my tune, the car should at least fire up. But what I want to know is "Where can I safely set my timing at to get it to the tuner"? Is there some sort of equation I can go by? I would have to look to make sure but I believe my total timing was at 14 degrees. With That I was making 470whp

Thanks

Initial or total timing?
The initial timing might be 10-14 degrees.
It should certainly start and run at that.

Total of 30 should be safe enough to drive.
