I tried Fresh Alloy but go no real usefully information. If anybody could chime in, I would appreciate it.

I am hoping to dyno the S13 today and I just wanted to get some advice. Just need a rough idea on what timing and AF ratio the KA likes. What HP level should I stop turning up the boost before risking blown HG, cracked ring lands, etc. We are using 93 octane.

91 240 120k miles bone stock motor

MODS:AEM EMSPK turbo manifoldSC50 turbo50lb top feed injectorsPK front mount IC2 3/4 to 3" DPno catApex exhaust

Thanx for any advice

The general rule of thumb being used is about .5° retard for every PSI of boost.

With an EMS you might try to have 12.2 AF all around the board, with a bone stock motor maybe a bit lower like 11.8-12.0.

Stock internals should be good to 15PSI. Above that the ringlands could have issues above 18PSI and the rods above 22PSI (at least I've been told).

I dont have a stock base map to work with. I am building the map from scratch. Just wondering if somebody has a reasonable timing suggestion for under boost conditions.

As far as AF, low 12s is fairly lean for the Supras running boost. We usually shoot for 11.7s or so for moderate boost levels. I would be supprised if the KA liked conditions in the 12s (but this would be nice for fuel economy).

just as hugh said .5 (maybe .75) for every pound of boost.

shoot for 11.5-12.0 a/f ratios. low 12s is not uncommon for a KA.

I haven't tuned the KA yet, but I have tuned several RB's. I made the most reliable power at 12.7/1 AFR's. It screamed at 13.5/1 AF while on alcohol. Another thing I recommend strongly

If you wany daily driver safe, I'd stay at high 11's. Just to compensate for heat soak of the IC and climate changes. Dan from UH runs 15 psi all day everyday and has for over a year now and makes 350 WHP with no problems at all. If you eliminate the knock your golden, but I'm sure your well aware already. I'm betting the KA will see 400 on all stock internals. I'm going to push mine until she blows as soon as I get the spare motor all done up. If the tuning is good, I wouldn't worry until over 20 psi, much more and the ring lands may have issues. The rods will hold forever as long as you stay under 7100 or so RPM.

I don't know where to start since you have no stock timing map to alter. I used the stock map of the RB since it was already a boost programed ECU.

Once you get over 5 psi your going to want to retard proportionally to boost, .5 is a good start like Pedro suggested.

I'm using the MSD BTM on my KA so I don't need any new maps. I've also never used the AEM system before, although I hear great things about it.

Not much help on the timing issue. Not to many guys have done standalone tuning on here. Building your timing map from scratch is a PITA. Start weak and progress.

Ivan even running the base map for a N/A KA would be better to build off of since it will at leist idle and cruise decently for you. If you need them you know you can go to the EMS forums and ask there... I know they are cluddered with idiots sometimes and its hard to get an answer, but if you don't even have that map then maybe you can get answers from someone who does.

Thanx. AEM isnt even released for the Nissans yet, so I doubt that there is anything on AEMPower as far as base maps. This S13 is actually the first KA-T in the world being run on AEM EMS. AEM has had three 240s running off the EMS, two stock KAs and one SR swap and thats it. So basically we are on our own here.

WD, thanx for the info. All I really need is a rough idea of what people have found that works. Your info is quite helpfull. I got a great reply on FA finally. Thanx
