has anyone ever advanced the timing on the q45? on a 1992 model year?

I remmber doing it on my 3.5L 2002 Maxima with a noticable gain in Hp/Tq, and a little bit more gas milage, if i didnt beat on the car..........

just wondering..

Most of the good technical stuff is in the old archived posts.

You can set it at 17 or so for more power, but you won't get the maximum.

Better is set it at 15 and advance the top end timing in the ECU to add about 4 degrees.

There is a spot around 2000 RPM and another spot around 4000 RPM that don't allow more than 2 degrees from stock.

We'll see what that actually does.....

I have to put my timing back at 15 before I go to hard on the car with the ECU.

Yes - make sure your timing is at 15 with the new ECU. All of the maps are set up with 15 degrees as a reference. The stock ecu tuning is "sloppy" enough that adding 2 degrees of base will work pretty good (although your idle and off-idle might be funky). It's just that there are a couple of spots where 2 degrees is the max, so if I increase those spots 2 degrees, and you have the base advanced 2 degrees you'll get knock (or at least trip the knock sensor if you leave it active).
