I replaced a timing belt on a VG30 SOHC. I took the belt off and put the new one on with no problem. I started it up and it fired and ran fine but noticed the belt tensioner need adjusting. I took the tensioner off and then the cams gears when out of place. what is the best way to time a VG30 back to stock?

Thanks

If you didn't have it on tdc #1 when you adjusted the tensioner you did a bad thing. The valve stems are thin on these engines and the valves bend easily. I suggest taking the plugs out and slowly turning the crank alittle and the cams alittle to get it on tdc #1 and the cams back to timing marks. Remove the dist cap and see where #1 fires, you have to look in the cap #1 doesn't fire right at #1 plug wire position. You may have to pull the heads to re-time it. If you can get all the pistons part way down in the cylinders this will allow you to turn the cams with less chance of bending valves. Remember turn slow and easy and stop at any resistance.
