Time to catch up Infiniti!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Just saw a Youtube video on the new Ford V6 Mustang. FYI, by no means do I like Fords. In fact I hate them, due to one of my first cars being a Ford Tempo. Horrible car! However, the new V6 engine by Ford makes 300+ hp and gets 31mpg!!! Ford is first to achieve this. I'm really jealous, I wish Infiniti was first to reach this mile stone. I'd like to see Infiniti come out with better more fuel efficient (Di) engines. I know for a fact Infiniti can make better cars then Ford. Time to catch up Infiniti! I hope someone at Infiniti actually reads this post... Sorry guys just needed to vent.

That's a fair point, but you do realize that Nissan/Infiniti makes some of THE best engines out there. MPG is an important point, but not the only one.

They could cut the curb weight of the EX by using a solid rear axle like Ford does in the Mustang. Replacing the EX's hatchback with a trunk would also reduce weight.

It was about time for Ford to make a new and better V6 though. The existing Mustang V6 is apparently 15 years old technology, and it shows - the 2010 V6 Mustang is actually a fair bit slower car than EX35 despite being a muscle car, and has much less HP and torque even, despite its 4 liter engine, which you have to admit is kinda funny.

Also, you forgot to mention that 31mpg value is highway only The numbers are 19/31, which mind you is still really great for 3.7L engine, but for a moment there I thought 31 was for overall, not just highway. Keep in mind also that Infiniti's 3.7L is still quite a bit more powerful than Ford's despite being older - 305 vs 328hp. When you're looking for a sport/performance car, gas milage is probably not going to be that high on your checklist. I bet Ford decided to compromise power in this engine to get as low gas usage as possible, as they will use it for several other vehicles in their lineup, like Edge or Lincoln MKX where performance is not much of an imperative. They are probably thinking for real enthusiasts Mustang makes more sense with its V8 configuration anyways. Btw, projected gas usage of this engine in Edge and MKX is 18/25 which is the EX35 ballpark. I guess Mustang gets better there because of its lighter weight compared to those two.

For Infiniti however, 3.7l being more biased towards performance makes sense, as the vehicles it goes in are without exception performance oriented.
