Hey all. So the KA is acting up and the car is going off the road for the winter, so I'm thinking it's rebuild time, before I turbo (hoping to do over the winter as well). Anyway, wondering if anyone has experience with these kinds of kits off ebay.

What I'm planning on is stripping the block, getting it honed and hot tanked, maybe a small amount of overbore just to make sure the cylinders are true and get the oversize pistons. From there obviously rebuild with these parts. Head work would have to be done I'd assume, port and polish and whatnot. Not too sure what has to be done there? (Yes, first time thinking about seriously rebuilding a motor). From there I guess it would be in good shape to turbocharge.

So any advice on the kit, what to do to the head, the honing or overboring situation, or any rebuild tips whatsoever? The motor is actually in really good shape, 120000 kms (so like 80000 miles?) but it recently started shooting white smoke, or black smoke if I race it hard. And it ticks, and timing chain guide rattles, blah blah, so I figured well why not.

I don't have any experience with the Ebay rebuild kit, but i wouldn't ever put new plastic timing chain guides back in. The later OBD2 KA-E in pickup trucks have metal backed guides.

Here is some port and polish ka24e head flow results, scroll down towards the bottom and you will pass the sheets...http://home.att.net/~MabuhayCarlos/TurboHead.html

There is also a company selling rebuilt ka24e heads with warranty on Ebay for like $350.

Check all the oil passages for plastic shavings possibly from the timing chain guide. I remember reading on DeviousKA's build that the crank has ball plugs in it, and that they can be drilled out and allen plugs installed.
