I have an 01' QX4 with the optional 17"s. I'm not sure if I want to go with a beefy truck tire or a nice suv tire like a Pilot or Fortera. You guys have any suggestions. I live in Michigan so crappy weather is an issue but I also want a decent tread warranty.

Cool thanks, I'm leaning towards the Mich. ltx m/s or the GoodYear Fotera triple tread. I'll see what I can get a better deal on.

We put on Michelin LTX's on our Pathfinder after the mediocre OE Toyo Transpaths wore out.

I am not a tire guy and don't usually have an allegiance to one brand over another. But since all our vehicles are newer, I won't buy some cheap tire to save a few bucks. At the same time, I am in no way gonna spend twice as much on one tire over another just for the name.

I went with LTX over CrossTerrains because the tread was more aggressive and looked like a tire that belonged on an SUV, not a car. They also had very high ratings on Tire Rack with little to no complaints... unlike most others.

The LTX's are terrific. They are still very quiet, smooth ride, great impact resistance, have tons of tread depth, and been perfectly balanced since day one. Like I said above, not typically loyal to one tire brand or model, but I will definitely replace these with the exact same set when they wear out (as long as Michelin doesn't discontinue them! ).

Mark my words... go with the LTX. You will not regret it.

And they are very reasonably priced (got mine at Costco).

What are the LTX's like in the rain?I'm almost due for new tires as well, and my current tires are crap on wet roads. No traction whatsoever. It's dangerous just going around corners.I currently have Goodyear Wranglers (never again). The Wranglers also had to be rebalanced numerous times. They have never been perfect in that regard. Thanks.

The Michelin LTX's are terrific in the rain (and we get a lot down here in sunny Florida). Honestly I cannot think of one weakness the tires possess. Well, maybe that they are a little pricier than some store brand or some less established brand. But like I said, they have been flawless (well over a year now) and I never even think about them (they just perform).

Funny thing is, when looking for tires it's always tempting to go for something that's touted as "New and Improved!" or marketed with some new technology that may or may not really make any difference in the scheme of things. The Cross Terrains and Forteras had some cool buzzwords being tossed around, but judging by satisfaction ratings, the LTX's were just solid.

The LTX's are really like the "Maytag" of tires... not terribly exciting, but damn reliable and competent.

I really like that the deep, aggressive tread kinda wraps around onto the sidewall a bit. Look less like a car tire and more like the SUV/Truck tire the Pathfinder SE we have deserves.

I say: can't go wrong.

Well you guys had me set on the LTXs then I went to my local Goodyear shop and a friend of mine who works there gave me a deal I couldnt' resist on a set of Goodyear Fortera Silend Armor... so far so good. They look pretty nice, ride great and they have a 70k tread wear warranty.
