Just wondering the best route to go. Raybestos Quiet Stop pads were on my list assuming they're available for my ride or are OEM pads a must for this vehicle? Which of those two options would last longer and other recommendations welcomed?

Brake pad questions always stir up the debate and the emphatic reply from the NICO hardliners will be OEM ONLY. I sure have liked the Raybestos dust-free ceramic pads on my 94Q with no noticable difference in performance from OEM pads.

Last longer? Something made of stone!

Work better? OEM is the only one formulated specifically for your car! All the others are just generic formulations from which fitting pads are cut.

Why one would want to wear the rotor faster than the pad is a mystery to me.

I am a big fan of ceramic, and there are so many people that would say to only buy OEM. I have had ceramic on all my cars and I still stop, have not had to replace a rotor yet. Then again I also change cars every 5-6 years.

Pads and rotors are just the cost of doing business. My most recent pads are stock from IOS, but I hate cleaning brake dust from my wheels. The stock 'turbines' take about 10 minutes each to clean. If I were a rich man, I'd buy some nice 5 spokes. It cost me 20 bucks to have the old rotors turned.

But, when I hear guys like Mike opine on ceramics and find them the same, I'm inclined to switch to ceramics at the next replacement. I already have some stock rears pads waiting to go in as soon as it warms up. It's funny how the rears don't get so dirty even though I have read here that they wear faster than the fronts due to bias. Huh.

Coriolis perhaps?

Infiniti are more rear brake biased, and if you have TCS, expect even more wear.

Nothing wrong with brake dust, as the lack of it would mean you are wearing the rotor instead (more expensive and longer initial application cold stops).

i have always run performance pads in the past, however on the q i went with oem because of the associated sensors.

In 223,000 miles of my Q ownership, I have never gotten less than 70,000 miles out of the front OEM pads, and never less than 50,000 miles out of the OEM rear pads, NEVER.

Makes it hard to even want to try an aftermarket pad.

Point taken because I don't know if the pads had just been changed when I purchased my used Q, but I'm just noticing it's time ( and it's still mild) for a change in front pads over 30,000 miles later. This will be my first time changing them.

Be sure to true your rotors and for good measure check your hub run out.

Hmm, I've always been under the impression the trueing of rotors with pad replacement was only needed when shaking occured with braking. Now as far as the hub run out, whats that?

A brand new hub [where the rotor fits] is flat within 0.0005". Rust and corrosion will make it not flat. When the rotor is bolted to a warped or out of spec hub the EFFECT GETS MULTIPIED [ratio of hub vs rotor radius].

A real engineer or properly trained technican will clean the hubs before replacing rotors and measure the runout of rotors near the outside edge.

The spec is less than 0.003" where the fine quiver becomes noticeable. Most people get numb to expensive mainteance items and think everything is ok unless their false teeth vibrate out.

True hubs and rotors will ensure longer service life of brake components, or at least reveal problems beofre you pay to have all the hardware added on and wonder why it went south so quickly.

A true flat plane on the rotor for new flat pads always helps break in and pad bedding.
