Due to terrible sound from my old subs, due directly to the small cubic space of the g35 special fit enclosure, I've decided to upgrade a bit and thought I'd share.

I have this right now:

Those are twin Pioneer TS-W251R's stuffed in a box that only has .7 cu ft of internal space. Those subs require .7 min each. So they sound just awful right now. If anyone is looking for that box, I got mine on eBay:http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfg...stomsHe is currently out of stock, but you can find a similar box from Z-Enclosures:http://stores.ebay.com/ZEnclosures

The amp was a Pioneer GM 5200T. Good amp for what those subs required.

Back to that .7cu ft of space. Very few subs can share that kind of space. After alot of searching and comparing, I found these Boston Acoustics:http://www.crutchfield.com/App...p=111

They have good power and only require .5cu ft each. But of course .5 x 2 = 1, and I only have .7cuft. That's where the polly fill will come in. Throwing basic pillow stuffing in the box will make the subs act as if they have a bit more room. So I'm set there. Not a big Boston fan, but for the $, they will pound!

As for the amp, found a good sale on an Alpine M450:http://www.crutchfield.com/App...p=115

Its got the power those subs need, and have an internal In-Line Adapter, which I need to run the input off of the rear speakers since I don't have an aftermarket head unit. It also only requires an 8 gauge power wire kit, which I already have installed.

After some negotiating with Crutchfield, I got the amp and subs for $344.97. $109.99 for each sub, $149.99 for the amp, free shipping and $25 off the total cause I'm awesome. It would have cost me $12 less via Amazon, but I get alot more service out of Crutchfield, and a 30 trial just in case.

I sold my old subs amp and box for $300 to a friend if I install it, so after everything I spent 45 bucks!!!! Go me.

Just thought I'd share that in case it helps anyone.

Very cool. Let us know how it sounds. Although, if you have plans to keep the subs a while, I'd be concerned about those foam surrounds. I've run a couple of subs with foam surrounds and they all deteriorated in a couple of years. Rubber surrounds are much more durable.

Personally, I'd probably have gone with a single 10 with much higher quality. Either a 2-ohm or dual coil would allow that amp to push 400 watts through it. Plenty of power and would be a cheap way to get a really good quality speaker without breaking the bank. Of course, you might be limited by choices of premade enclosures.

+1 on C-Kwik's recommendations.

I have a set of 2 MTX 8500 10's DVC being pushed by an MTX 7800. They are PLENTY loud!

My first choice was a single DVC. This one actually:http://www.crutchfield.com/App...p=111

It looks nice, and has plenty of power. It would also work well with the .7cuft of space my box has. However, my box has 2 ports and I'd have to deal with that, or buy another box. Also, I'm told by a few people (Crutchfield agrees) that the 2 Bostons will sound and perform better than a single DVC rated at 500RMS, which is the max I'm willing to deal with.

I don't listen to hiphop or pop, so I don't want/need my car to shake. I only require that when I drive, it feels like the double bass pedals of whatever metal band I'm listening to feel like they are hitting directly on the back of my chair. Doesn't take 1000RMS watts to produce that. 120x2 use to work just fine before I got the new smaller box.

Eitherway, I get my bostons tomorrow and will install and compare then. If They don't work for me, no problem, 30 money back guarantee. They even will send me a shipping sticker. Then I'll try the Alpine single. After all, it does look much better...

I just wish that someone made a custom trunk-side box or stealth box that didn't cost more than the sub.

This one would have been sweeeet But it costs $350 http://www.4080enclosures.com/...age=2

Ok, after lots of quality time with my trunk, my Boston subs and Alpine amp are installed.

I must say they sound great. I've been tweaking and testing for hours, and my ears are actually in a lot of pain. Feels like I've been at a concert all night.

They have great response and much more power than I can use. The amp has some great tuning options, and I'm sure I'll be playing with that for a while more before I settle. Just wish I had a remote to control the amp, since I have the stock HU.

I haven't flush mounted the box, or fixed the wires just yet, so don't be too critical...

*Edit*

Seems I'm never satisfied. I just arranged a return of the Alpine amp, and have the Orion Cobalt C0800.1 on its way. The orion has a remote bass control knob that I definately need with the stock HU. http://www.crutchfield.com/App..._info

Good work SneaKe, looks Nice man!!!

I went with a 10" premier sub with a 1000w MTX amp, Bassworx ported box... it's all you really need.

I find the Stock Bose to be "adequate", but there's always something to be desired... with the addition of the sub, I can now turn heads with ease, with the right track anyway.

I too wanted to get the side mounted $350 box... but I dunno, is it worth it? Is the sound going to be worth $350? I highly doubt it.

What's your opinion of the new amp? I have sub control as well, in the G and the Altima!!! it's the way to go for sure!!!

I won't have the Orion untill next week sometime. The alpine is awesome for me, but need the remote. Both amps have the same features, so I doubt I'll see much difference.

I love pioneer/premier, but 1000watts is waaayyy too much for me. During all my testing I actually did some damage to my ear drums. lots of pain today...

Nice choice, I've actually never heard anything bad about the BA subs, so hopefully you'll still be pleased after the Orion amp. I have a remote bass on my Kicker 750.1 and it comes in handy. If your not using the little slot on the right hand side of your console (beside the stock radio) you can flush mount it in there pretty easy to make it accessible but out of the way. I'm pushing 2 10" Alpine Type R DVC @2 ohms in the trunk, and I can honestly say that its over kill for someone with your music tastes.

If the Orion amp doesn't work out for you, I'd suggest a Kicker 450.1 with a 10" Alpine Type R DVC. The combo works great and gives you plenty of thump for the type of music you listen too.

Yeah, the 500RMS watts are too much for me now. I kinda want the single type R alpine DVC for the looks, but I'd need a new box.

I'd like to see a picture of your control knob and its placement. I haven't seen the remote yet, so I don't know where I'll mount it.

Got the Orion in yesterday. I like it better than the Alpine. The remote is so convenient. Probably going to mount it under my steering wheel somewhere out of sight. Or I may mount it as just the knob opposite the side mirror controls. Its about the same size and wouldn't look out of place.

I use my ash tray for my cell phone.
