So this weekend marks my one year anniversary...no, not wedding but G ownership! (Jacko is likely to tell me that counts as marriage I'm certain) In one year I have only managed about 5500 miles (lots of carpooling)

Now for the good news/bad news situation. I only have ~7 months left with it. I found out last week that I got into the Purdue MBA program. Trick is, I wont be in Indiana. I'll be studying for 11mos. in Hannover, Germany. I'd love to enjoy my car on the Autobahn but I don't think it is exactly practical...planning to store it here at home. I just can't bring myself to sell it-especially when the economy sucks so bad these days. I suppose this means I need to get more than the 5500 miles on it before leaving next summer-drive it like I stole it!

Oh well, guess we take the good with the bad, right? Just wanted to share-have a great weekend all!

Congrats. I have had mine for just over 18 months. Still fairly happy with it.

I would consider getting rid of the G. Who knows how you'll feel after completing your MBA? Perhaps you'll decide to stay and work there?

Although its been over 43 years since I spent 17 months there (US Army) I loved Germany. I returned for a visit to Munich and Berlin in 2006All of Europe has great public transportation and you can set your watch by the arrival of trains in Germany.

I'm sure you are going to have a great experience over there.

Telco-I really thought about it but I'm not sold on selling. It's 11 mos. and right now I'm planning on returning back to the good ol' USA. I have spent a lot of time in Germany and love it there but ultimately everything near and dear to me is back here. I could see myself finding the right job here maybe just not in CO. I'm also fortunate enough to not be throwing my life into insurmountable debt to go back to school. Plus I will be home for some random breaks, at which point I will need my car! I am considering selling my Jeep however for some extra cash.

I agree with you on Munich-I have a 2nd family in that area and I love Bavaria. Didn't have a choice though on northern Germany, that's where Purdue's 'sister school' is.

Still have some time but dang if I'm not excited!

Uncbeer:

Whether you like it or not, G ownership is a marriage contract, complete with a marriage license, signed and sealed by the Nissan High Priests from the mountains of Tochigi, Japan.

But on the other hand, ho ware you going to deal with the emotional seperation from your G. I am already weeping in my heart on your behalf on account of this seperation. I personally couldn't deal with it or bear thinking about the love of my life being thousands of miles away from me.

It takes a real man to live without his G

To sell or not to sell, is the question. 11 months is quite sometime but again, it is no time. Time does indeed fly. Well, while I practically agree with Telcoman, who by the way, is always a pragmatist about everything, which I like about him, I am more emotional then pragmatic about my G. I wish I could think with my head like Telcoman, instead of with my heart, when it comes to matters of the G.

So, my advice to you is this:

1. Do you feel anything in your heart for your G? Do you deal with her as a regular car or as a lover?

2. If the G is a lover to you, then, wherever the money came from for you to pay for a Purdue MBA, try to find the money again, if you can, to make your G payments or pay it off totally, if you have not done so. But if the G is just a car to you, then sell it like Telcoman adviced.

These are just words from a man blinded by his emotional allegiance and love for his G.

Anyway, congrats on being admitted to Purdue University. You will find business administration a very interesting field. Particularly, you might enjoy the economics, international management/business, strategy, and finance courses.

Jacko-

You're right-I'm fairly certain I said 'I do' at the dealership...'I do' agree to repay this loan-I guess...

I'm just adding on to my undergrad business degree. I must have liked the courses since I'll be back at it (3 of the 4 you listed I really enjoyed-with Finance the jury is still out).

And, completely anticipating biting the bullet and going back soon, I have been making well above the minimum monthly payment. I can have this thing paid off and have a little extra cash on hand before I leave. I tell myself it is just a car but you and I both know an investment like this is never 'just a car.' I'd like to be able to return to the US (assuming a job, etc...) and have my car. It took me so long to find this one that I don't want to start all over in a few years!

If we were talking a house it'd be on the market, but a car is mobile when I return! Who knows, maybe I will decide differently before I leave?

Sad and happy for you. Hope everything goes well for you at the autobahn I mean Germany. LOL

I love Germany. Some of the small villages are soooo clean. Lots of good beers too.

Finance is a beast. I have no idea why anyone would want to engage in it. But a finance MBA does pay pretty well.
