So...is it a "marbles in a tin can" type noise from the front of your valve cover? If so, you're looking at timing chain problems.
You can try removing the guide between the cam sprockets and see if that solves your problem. There's also a guide a bit lower down on the passenger side of the front of your engine, near the distributor. You can remove those two upper guides AND THOSE TWO ONLY. The guides on the lower chain *cannot* be removed.
Your problem may also be a worn upper chain tensioner (on the passenger side), in which case you should replace it.
The sound may also be coming from your lower chain, which is much more difficult to get to.
You should probably try to isolate the sound with a mechanic's stethoscope or even just a screw driver.
It's possible that your timing chain(s) is stretched, but the tensioner or guides is the more likely issue. The other issue could be low oil pressure due to a leak, clogged pick-up, bad oil pump, etc.
