tie rod question

There is a noise coming from the front passager side of mah car, so i check it out and I think it is the inner tie rod. When i grab either of the tie rods i can move them back and forth, bad axial end play i guess. So my question is how can i be sure it is the inner tie rod? Could it be the inner ball joint?....the outer tie rod looks fine, the boot on the outer ball joint is fine but i still get the movement when i grab the outer tie rod too.

Any help would be appreciated, got to do this before work so help please.
