Wow, that's flippin scary.

My old '90 blazer's power steering wheel was welded on crooked and I while I was driving down the parkway one day the frayed belt flew apart and ripped off the battery cable and my car just DIED going 65-70. Scared me half to death.

Time to one-up you...'82 FWD Subaru wagon, no power steering. Had the driver's ball joint snap at 70MPH at night in the rain going around a right hand curve, forcing the left front tire to fly back against the body and lock... lost 1/4 of my braking, MOST of steering, and was forced to maneuver the car to the right hand shoulder while it was trying to pull to the left all the time.

Managed to do it without getting hit. Closest I've ever come in my life to crapping the metaphoric brick. In a literal sense.

That sucks for that couple. Only had one steering recall on a vehicle it was something to do with the ball joints on my A4,but I traded it in before I had it fixed.

This is exactly how my Sentra was totalled, loss of steering on a corner.

Though I now wonder... occasionally during more extreme right hand maneuvering, I hear a popping noise come from under me...

I guess it's time to make ANOTHER repair appointment.

Take these with a grain of salt. These are not posted by what one would call an "industry expert". All these reports to the NHTSA are submitted by end users (consumers). 1 report does not indicate a chronic problem.

Yes, one report does not a chronic problem make.

There have been a number of us, however, who have had burning smells from our rear wheels, so there may be something to that report..

And I have symptoms that could be related to this, so I will most certainly have it checked out.

Appointment has been made with the new dealership I am working with for service (since the old dealership wasn't taking me seriously).

Will let you all know how it goes.

Oh yeah, the appointment is for tomorrow.
