Ticking?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

I bought a 1989 240sx a month ago with 230,000 miles. I drive it everyday to work and back and for fun, but the other night the engine started to make a "clicking" sound, i got out checked the oil and coolent all was fine. started the car back off and drove it around and the noise stopped. it did it a second time today....any advice???

Check oil pressure and timing chain, or cross fingers. Either one will do.

its a KA thing they all do it its annoying as hell and if i could only find out what it is i could sell the answer on ebay for a million dollars literally but yeah its a usual sound no worries seriously

Check right in the front by the valve cover. If the sound is up there, It's the timing chain tensioner.

They all seem to do it. Sometimes 10-40 will fix it.

could be the upper timing chain guides... might think about removing them; there's a how-to in the technical forum.
