Seriously....a Fram oil filter???? A waste to use synthetic oil and use that trash they call an oil filter. That's about the worse rated oil filter out there.M3irtyFizzle-Hi wrote:I have a 2006 m35 with 76,xxx miles on it
Just did an oil change like couple days ago
I notice that i have a ticking sound now,i hear it as soon as the car is warmed up
Im using Castrol edge syntec oil 5w-30 & a fram oil filter
Could it be my Timing chain or tensioner?Plzz help guys,I hope its nothing serious,
my engine knock sensor is not on,I don't feel any engine power loss
Responses are greatly appreciated
Can't say for sure but this does sound like the constant ticking I've been having since about 45k miles... The loud clank like noise was only at start up and lasted for about a minute or so, then continued as the more quiet ticking.... Like in the video.M3irtyFizzle-Hi wrote:I still havent gotten mines fix yet,my mechanic friend is gonna take a look at this weekend,im hoping that it is my tensioner,Considering im out of warranty -___-
My tick sound isnt loud, plus i only get the sound when my car is warmed up, does yours sound like this?

Wrong. How would you explain synthetic blends then? And wouldn't there be more blow'd up engines if this were true? There is absolutely no truth to this myth.lovemycarM35 wrote:I thought I heard that If you run synthetic then you can't go back to regular just my two cents
Did you ever figure this out?? I'm having the same problem. The sound disappears as soon as the car is shifted in D or R. It's only there in P and N. It increases in frequency when throttle is applied and the intensity tapers off as more throttle is applied. It's no longer audible at around 2000 RPM +.M3irtyFizzle-Hi wrote:I have a 2006 m35 with 76,xxx miles on it

This is an exact description of my problem! Has it gotten worse since you wrote this? Please, any help would be appreciated. I'm panickingM3irtyFizzle-Hi wrote:I notice something today as I was warming up my m35 ,the ticking sound goes away if I turn on my ac ,if I turn it off it comes back ,plus I only get the ticking sound only on park & nuatral if the ac is off, any ideas on what the problem is?
Oh no, don't get me wrong. I have no problem at all with the ticking noise. It actually sounds a little like the idling growl of my dad's M56, which I am a big fan ofwingFeather wrote:I understand the frustrations expressed here. I owned a Suburban which developed a tick after a year. The dealers all said "normal". And... they were right. I put 90,000 miles on the engine & didn't have any repairs of any kind (just oil & filter changes). It may not be the answer you want, but a small tick seems normal in modern cars. Maybe the composite valve covers don't block lifter noise like the old metal ones did.
